Evaluation Question Two: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Lilla: Hi I’m Lilla
Louise: And I’m Louise
Lilla: This is our music video we made for the song ‘I’d Lie’ by Taylor Swift that is on her new album called ‘I’d Lie’ which has not been released.
Louise: We renamed our artist Faith McCan who is a British artist and has a target audience of girls aged 13-25. The music genre is country pop.
Lilla: For our artist’s image, we wanted to create a video with a narrative story with performance in it that is characteristic of country music including camera shots and angles.
Louise: We researched into many different music videos and we found that there is many close ups and camera timing on the artist. We thought this was important to use in our video because we are promoting a new artist.
Lilla: We had a very simple narrative of a couple where the girl is sad not to be with the boy but they end up together by the end of the track. This is linked to the lyrics. Throughout the video, we used simple transitions for the majority of the video so the audience is kept focused. We did use some different transitions when we thought it had significance or a parallel link between lyrics and the visuals.
Louise: The people we used in our video was ourselves so we knew we could fully rely on each other with learning lines and being punctual and reliable when filming.
Lilla: Our digipack and MySpace page is linked to our song and video and also our genre.
Louise: For our front cover, our main focus is our artist and we also have a guitar and a flower indicating the genre of country. The artist’s clothing also following this genre such as denim and floaty clothing.
Lilla: We thought it was important to have our artist on the front cover because we are ultimately promoting a new artist.
Louise: Before we created our MySpace page, we researched into MySpace artist profile pages and learnt all their conventions. We looked at artist’s pages such as Lily Allen.
Lilla: Our MySpace shows a clear promotion for our artist using various photos of her, a press release, songs and general information on her. We also have included a promotion, advertising our artist’s debut album, following the conventions of MySpace artist pages.
Louise: We linked these to our genre of country pop by using Mise En Scene in the photos such denim, floaty clothing, flowers and guitars. We also put in the general information of the artist that her music is country pop.
Lilla: Our research was helpful because we achieved a well developed MySpace page. We have had various artists add us and comment to show this achievement.
Louise: Research into music videos was crucial and helpful to us to achieve what we have as our final product.
Lilla: We believe we had promoted our artist efficiently from the high level of design into our MySpace page and Digipack. We put all the attention on our star and her single to the video, promoting her as a new artist.
Louise: For our target audience, we think we have created the right image for our star. She is very innocent and is a great role model for our target audience.
