Today we had presented our two final song choices to our peers and got their opionion and feedback from them. We played the two tracks to them and asked them what was their own video ideas for them for extra ideas and inspiration.
From there we discussed our we would go about making the two videos with the different ideas in terms of location, people, amount of shots and film timing. We also talked about the reasond for and against making each video. For example Taylor Swift I'd Lie - a reason for doing this video is there is an easy location of a field we could use, also the connotations of 'country' is an easy option for us in terms of Mise En Scene such as costume and actors. A reason against doing this video is the lighting because now the season is changing into autumn the light during the day is really dark and it gets dark really early which may limit us to filming time.
Our second video idea of 'innocent' by Snakes Hate Fire' - A reason for doing this video is the idea for it is simple, with a girl with lots of attitude walking down a street, explaining her story. It seems quite simple but really getting the image to be perfect, following someone is difficult and could affect our grade for the video. A reason against this video is that the song is pretty fast paced which means that more shots are needed and could ultimatley mean we take up too much time filming the video and can't fill up gaps in the song to fill out the video.
We had come to the conclusion, with help from our peers, that we will do Taylor Swift simply becasue we have had so much more ideas for target audience etc. and the facilties needed for this video idea is easier to use and the connotations for 'country' music is clear for us to do.
The target age for the artist Taylor Swift will be girls from their early teens (age 13) till early 20's. This is because the song choice is all about relationships and talking about a boy from a girl's narrative and she talks about how she likes this boy but wouldn't ever admit it.
The genre of the music track is country/pop. Pop meaning popular culture, would help us pull in the wide range of age. The genre of country however is not hugely popular but this track allows country to be reinvented which is an unique selling point.
The conventions that will be used in the music video include various elements of Mise En Scene. The costumes that will be used will be an obvious element that will signify country with denim, and checkard shirts. Also props used will include an guitar. The majority of the actors to be used will be female, to apeal to the target audience with the exception of a boy to fit into the storyline. The settings used will include both country and modern day to include an element of the genre pop. A setting that will fit the connotations of country will be a feild or a natural resort such as a lake, woodlands or natural preserve. A setting that will fit the connotations of modern day will be a school. This is because the song lyrics is a story about a girl who likes a boy but will not admit it. Also a genre of the song is pop (popular culture) so a school will be a location where everyone can realte to and is common of today's modern world. One last point for the choice of a school, is the target audience age. This includes young teenage girls, so they also relate to scene and perhaps this will apeal to them. Our last location is a family home because again, the viewers can relate to it and make the ending appear personal because the boy in the lyrics eventually goes to the girls house when they realise they can be together.
The type of music video we have decided to film is narrative/Performance. This is because that lyrics tell a story so adding a narrative will keep it parallel to the lyrics but also we want to sell our star hence a performance base narrative.
The are three main characters in our music video. There is the artist with the performance narrative, and a girl and boy who will perform the narrative concept to be parallel with the lyrics. They will both be teenage around 16/17 at school. The girl will be typically the girl who can never get the boy she wants whereas the boy is completely oblivious to the fact that she likes him.
Media institutions that would play this music track would inluclude many different instutions such as music channel, radio and magazine. Music channels such as 'Smash Hits' 'Kiss' and 'The Box' would play this track due to the pop genre in it. These are the main 3 channels popular for pop genre also pop genre mixed with other genres such as R'n'B and in this case country. Radio Stations that would play this track would include 'Captial FM' 'Kiss 100' and 'Heart'. Captial FM is London's number one radio station. It does the top 40 singles very sunday so would attract many different ages and will include pop music because that it most popular. Kiss 100 would play this track because they prioritize playing what their listener's request and this track is a very catchy 'can't-get-out-of-your-head' song and Kiss 100 plays tracks like them. 'Heart' has taken over 'Essex FM' so the range of listener's will be in big figures. Because of this the range of genre's played on this station is very varied so adding country into pop would not be a problem to play. Magazines that would inlcudes this artist and track would include 'Smash Hits' and 'Top of the Pops'. They both include pop music and they also like to promote the artist encouraging readers to listen to their music.
